Special Subjects for Enhanced Learning
The goal of the Scofield leadership and administration is to provide a comprehensive education to all students. To enhance their existing core curriculum, every day Scofield students work with specialized teachers in one of the following areas: Spanish, Computer, Music, P.E., Art or Library.
Studies have shown that involvement in the arts is associated with gains in math, reading, cognitive ability, critical thinking, and verbal skills. Arts learning can also improve motivation, concentration, confidence, and teamwork. (Smith, 2005) In Physical Education, students acquire the knowledge and skills for movement that provide the foundation for enjoyment, continued social development through physical activity, and access to a physically-active lifestyle. The student exhibits a physically-active lifestyle and understands the relationship between physical activity and health throughout the lifespan. Our students have access to printed and non-printed resources in our library and learn the fundamental components of Spanish, preparing them to live in an increasingly global society. SCS students live in an ever increasing technology-based society; therefore, it is imperative that technology is embedded within and across the curriculum to better prepare students for the 21st century.
Student artwork is displayed all around the school showcasing various techniques including clay, charcoal, yarn, paint, and more. Grades 3-6 are encouraged to participate in our school choir, Cornerstone Chorale, which performs for school functions and select community events and all students perform in a Christmas and Spring Musical each year.
