Environmental Learning Center

Learning from Nature

Research conducted by the State Education and Environment Roundtable (SEER) found that students who learn academic content through an environment-based curriculum score higher on standardized tests and are more engaged in their school work. Supporting this research, Scofield Christian School created their own Environmental Learning Center. The Learning Center provides opportunities for hands-on learning across the curriculum. Our students spend time in the school garden planting, maintaining, harvesting, and learning about God’s creation.

In the fall of 2017, the Scofield garden was certified by the City of Dallas’ Environmental Education Initiative (EEI). EEI has been providing water conservation and recycling education since 2006. EEI’s goals are designed to engage students to become more scientifically literate and to inspire students to become active and informed decision-making citizens. We were recently honored to have our garden chosen as a featured site for the 23rd Annual Water-Wise Landscape Tour.
